Australian Millionaires Forced To Give Up Beloved Superyacht After Seven Years At Sea

Custom-built 125-foot Altavita sold after exploring the world's seas since 2018. The yacht features bespoke interior with dark wooden panelling and luxury marble accents. Listed at $10 million USD  (~16 million AUD), the vessel hosted both private and charter adventures.

Not all journeys last forever — some sail into the sunset, never to return, leaving behind the treasure of memories. Such is the tale of Australian millionaire couple Leni and Garth Matthews, who earlier this month sold their beloved superyacht Altavita, after seven years of extraordinary adventures at sea.

A Dream Crafted in Excellence

Before Altavita, the Matthews were no strangers to life on the water, having owned several smaller vessels but in 2018, they decided to take things up a notch and commissioned a superyacht tailored to their exact vision. The result was a floating masterpiece built by Gulf Craft in the United Arab Emirates — one of only six Majesty 125 models ever created.

Determined to ensure each detail is immaculate, the pair visited the UAE multiple times during the building process. The final product was nothing short of breathtaking: a 125-foot vessel combining sleek, contemporary style with timeless luxury detailing, a sumptuous combination of dark panel woods, plush leather finishes, and high-end marble accents.

Life Aboard a Floating Palace

The luxurious vessel accommodates up to 12 guests. The yacht has five staterooms, including a full-beam master suite with panoramic ocean views.

Two double staterooms and two twins with Pullman berths located on the lower deck ensure guests the highest level of comfort, each including its own entertainment centre and En-suite bath. In addition, a crew of eight is housed in four separate cabins and is responsible for providing impeccable service to the guests.

The main saloon is an entertainer's dream, with broad picture windows allowing natural light to pour in, and its glass sliding glass doors seamlessly connect the indoor and outdoor spaces. The formal dining area sits forward, creating an elegant setting for meals at sea.

But the real showstopper is the sundeck. Equipped with a Jacuzzi, a sit-up bar stocked with spirits, a Teppanyaki grill, and dining space under the canopy of the hardtop, it's the ultimate spot for relaxing — either moored along the coast of the Amalfi Coast or cruising through the Greek Isles.

Power and Performance

Altavita's capabilities match her elegant design. Powered by twin 1,900hp Caterpillar diesel engines, the yacht comfortably cruises at 19 nautical miles per hour, making long-distance voyages seem like a breeze. Impeccably maintained and regularly upgraded, she was mainly used in exploring European waters before being listed for sale in 2023.

When the Matthews weren't on board, Altavita doubled as a high-end charter yacht, offering luxury experiences to elite travellers. But in 2023, the couple decided it was time to let her go for $10 million, and earlier this month, after seven years of unforgettable memories, the yacht found a new home.

Now, as Altavita embarks on a new journey with her new owner, the only question that remains is: how long before Leni and Garth find themselves designing their next dream yacht? Given their love for the sea, don't be surprised if another bespoke vessel is already in the works.
