I Asked ChatGPT To Write My Tinder Bio. It Wasn’t Pretty

ChatGPT has the world’s freelance writers quaking in their boots. But it’s not just listicle penners who should be worried about AI. If you’re disappointed by the quality of the Tinder bios and Hinge profiles you’re currently seeing, they could be about to get a whole lot worse. I should know – I just asked ChatGPT to write a (hypothetical) Tinder bio for me…

For someone happily in a relationship, I’ve had some weird dating experiments over the last few years. From trying Chris Hemsworth’s ‘f*ckboi haircut’ to rocking ‘the man bun for your feet’ for a week, I’ve tested my partner’s patience many times.

Today it was time to try something new though – to get ChatGPT to write me a (hypothetical) dating profile.

Although you could argue the standard for Tinder, Bumble, Hinge and Raya is already set quite low, the lack of personality you get when ChatGPT writes your dating profile really is something worse altogether.

Actions (or in this case, words) speak louder than words, however, so without further preamble, here’s what ChatGPT came up with when I asked it to write me various types of dating profiles.

When I asked it to write me a profile showcasing my love of nature

From “I’m a firm believer that life is best lived outside of your comfort zone and I’m always up for a new challenge” to “I love learning about new places, meeting new people, and trying new things” this one felt a bit soulless. Thanks for trying, though, ChatGPT.

When I tweaked the search to ask for a Tinder bio, instead of a profile, it was even worse. It came up with: “Nature-lover, adventure-seeker, and tree-hugger at heart. When I’m not scaling mountains or camping under the stars, you can find me lost in a good book or sipping on a cup of tea.”

“Seeking someone who shares my passion for the great outdoors and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Let’s wander off the beaten path and create some unforgettable memories together.”

When I decided to test ChatGPT’s ability to be funny

I then decided to test ChatGPT’s humour-generating capabilities, changing my search to “write a funny tinder profile for a nature lover.” It came up with the above. Slightly better, though very dad-humour-y. It also assumes I’m a park ranger. But beggars can’t be choosers.

When I asked it to write a bunch of bios

Here’s what it gave me:

Just a small town girl/guy living in a big city, trying to navigate my way through the dating scene.

Avid traveler and adventurer seeking someone to join me on my next journey.

Netflix binge-watcher and sushi lover looking for a partner in crime.

Wine connoisseur and dog parent seeking someone who can keep up with my pun game.

Outdoors enthusiast and gym rat seeking someone who can handle my stamina.

Lover of books, music, and all things nerdy seeking someone who can nerd out with me.

A hopeless romantic and lover of love, seeking someone who is ready for a real relationship.

A sarcastic person with a heart of gold, seeking someone who can handle my wit and intelligence.

When I asked it to write a bio for a surfer

Brb – I’m off to cringe…
