The National Basketball Association (NBA), North America’s premier basketball league is back on our TVs once again for the 2022-23 NBA season.

Nothing can excite sports nuts more than a LeBron James slam dunk reverberating through the court or a Stephen Curry three-point winner that sends the arena into a frenzy.

This year, the Golden State Warriors look to defend their title, but standing in their way is a roster filled to the brim with the best basketball players in the world – including some Australians – who are desperate to etch their name in history books and win that coveted NBA Championship ring.

For Australian basketball fans, there are multiple ways in which you can tune in to watch the NBA (even if it means getting up at 6am to watch your favourite team!)

Read on to find out how watch the 2022-23 NBA regular season and 2023 NBA finals in Australia.

Kayo Sports

Kayo Sports streams the NBA through ESPN and shows an average of nine regular season NBA games a week. This is two games a week more than what was available last season.

Most importantly, the subscription also grants you access to the NBA Finals, as well as other NBA events such as the NBA Draft, All-Star Weekend and Christmas Day games. Fan-favourite television shows such as Inside the NBA and NBA Today are also available on the platform.

If that isn’t enough for basketball fans, Kayo covers every men’s and women’s games in Australia’s premier basketball association the National Basketball League (NBL); The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA); the biggest games on the NCAA American college basketball calendar; and Australian international games. That’s a lot of basketball.

If this sounds like the package for you, there are multiple subscription options. For AU $25 a month, games can only be watched on a single screen at any one time. More premium subscriptions are available for AU $27.50 a month, which allows you to watch on two screens simultaneously, or AU $35 a month for three.

Games can also be watched live or on replay across televisions, laptops, consoles and tablets.

In addition to that, there is also over 50 other sports available to watch live or on demand on Kayo Sports. A free 7-day trial is available for new customers.

Foxtel

Foxtel provides much of the same coverage as Kayo, except at a higher rate.

It also streams through ESPN, showing an average of seven live regular season games a week, as well as the NBA finals. Much like with Kayo, the NBL, NCAA college championships and WNBA are all available on the platform, as well as popular basketball talk shows.

You can also watch these live or on demand on the Foxtel GO app, which is free with a Foxtel subscription.

However, in order to access the channels, you will need to be subscribed to the ‘HD sports package’ deal, on top of the base ‘Foxtel plus pack’ – both of these together cost AU $74 a month. This is AU $49 more than the cheapest Kayo package.

Another option with Foxtel is to get NBA streams using Foxtel Now, Foxtel’s streaming website. However, you will also need to buy the ‘sports pack’ at AU $29 month on top of the ‘essentials pack’ which already costs AU $25.

This brings your total costs up to AU $54 a month, which is over double the price of the cheapest Kayo sports deal.

Other sports such as AFL, NRL and NFL are also available with the sports packages, which provides some reprieve. There is a free 10-day trial for Foxtel Now is available for new customers.

NBA League Pass

Another viable option, League Pass is the NBA’s own streaming service for games. For sports fans exclusively into basketball, choosing League Pass may well be the most cost-efficient means of watching the 2022-23 NBA season.

The service allows you to watch every match of the season on the internet, as well as granting you access to the NBA TV channel, which streams news, statistics and highlights 24/7.

There are two main packages – League Pass and League Pass Premium. The base League Pass costs AU $21.99 a month (AU $154.99 annually), allowing you to stream NBA on only one screen.  League Pass Premium costs $29.99 a month (AU $209.99 annually), which allows you to watch on up to two screens simultaneously.

If you only follow a specific NBA team, there is a cheaper option still. Team Pass gives you all the games from the one team you choose to follow for AU $19.99 a month (AU $119.99 annually). However, if you are able to get every game for an extra two dollars a month, it may well be better to pay that little bit extra.

There is also a 7-day free trial for new customers.
