Hard as we might try, takeout can be hard to resist, especially in a world where it's more accessible than ever, seamlessly delivered to your sweaty palms with the click of a button in a matter of minutes. Lucky for you, one expert personal trainer has revealed a surprising secret to enjoying takeout while getting your shred on...
Though the world may be divided on whether you can still achieve your fitness goals while getting your junk food fix or whether that greasy deliciousness is actually doing a lot more harm than good, what seems certain is that fast food's here to stay...
Whether you're willing to admit it or not, it's hard to deny that takeout is a tempting treat and an increasingly central feature of modern life for the vast majority of people out there. Adam Sullivan, the online PT who goes by the handle "Evidence-Based Training", has always been pretty forthright with his viewers, regularly referring to them as "fat c***s" with a typically Australian, laissez-faire approach to good manners.
However, if you don't mind the tone taken, he has a great deal of insight to offer into how you can get in shape while still enjoying some of your favourite foods. In this particular video, he talks about the dangerous myth of the "healthy" takeout side dish...
After pulling out a pretty hefty-looking chicken burger from a takeout bag, Sullivan then also reveals a small side dish of zucchini fries with a portion of mayo. To close out the video, Sullivan pans around to his cameraman who, despite everything Sullivan has been saying, is seen tucking into the zucchini fries and mayo with malice. For me, this serves as a perfect reminder that though everything Sullivan says is true and the case he makes is a strong one, if you want the calorie-dense side dish then go ahead and get it, you deserve it.
As the great Oscar Wilde once said: "All things in moderation, including moderation".
