Megan Thee Stallion, the insanely popular rapper and singer behind hits like WAP and Savage, might not be a particularly good baseball player… But her taste in watches is pretty fine.
The 28-year-old three-time Grammy award winner was enlisted to throw the opening pitch for her hometown baseball team, the Houston Astros, first game of the 2023 season against the Chicago White Sox late last week – a bit of an honour for the Texan rapper (you know, if you give a shit about baseball).
Her pitch was… Well, it sucked. She had a good sense of humour about it, but like many celebrity opening pitches, it was awful. But we don’t really care about her throwing arm: the real curveball was the exceptionally nice watch she was wearing for the occasion.
The watch in question? An Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph (ref. 26240OR.OO.1320OR.06) worth a solid US$110,000.
Featuring an 18ct pink gold case and bracelet plus a classic black “Grande Tapisserie” dial, this sporty take on the iconic luxury sports watch is all class. AP is a favourite brand amongst big-name rappers: everyone from Jay-Z to Rick Ross has name-checked the Swiss watchmaker, so it makes sense that Megan would get one for herself, too.
Her pitch might have been rubbish but at least Megan (real name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) didn’t make the same fatal mistake Conor McGregor made with his luxury watch when he threw the first pitch at a Chicago Cubs vs Minnesota Twins game last year…
