Outfit ideas with a versatile classic
If you’re going to own just one jacket, it should be a classic navy blue blazer. Full stop. There is no other garment that provides its degree of versatility. You might even say that a navy blue blazer is infinitely versatile. You might say it, but we will say it–no other garment in your closet will work harder for you.
It’s a workhorse garment all year long, but today, we’re highlighting three different wasy to wear a navy blazer for spring.
Look 1: Springtime Fresh
Look number one is simple, fresh, and classic- but with a few tweaks to dress it down a bit. Pairing a navy blazer with a denim shirt is one way to dress your navy blazer down, and the other way is with some white denim. I do like white jeans as a casual alternative to a pair of chinos. They’re still sporty, but dressier than a medium or light wash pair.
As I do like to wear loafers in the spring (socks optional) with a look like this, I’ll do a single roll on the jeans hem. Details for this look are some classic Clubmaster-style sunglasses, a polka dot pocket, and the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle on the wrist.
Look 2: The Classic One
For look number two, I’m keeping it relatively classic and very simple with more or less the ‘menswear uniform’ of navy blazer, white shirt, and medium-grey trousers. You could easily add a tie to dress it up a little, but I wanted to keep it a little more casual.
Any time I go for a business casual look, I try for loafers over lace-ups. Penny loafers are an excellent model for this kind of look, and a little more streamlined than smooth leather tassel loafers would be for this look. A white pocket square keeps it clean and minimal.
Look 3: The Casual One
I tend to go back and forth about whether or not a blazer truly ‘works’ with jeans- but both the first look and this one should tell you I’ve been feeling it lately. One of the great parts about owning a navy blazer, though, is it’s really easy to style with jeans.
The light jeans here are, again, the JCrew 484 fit with the roll. However, I’ve swapped the loafers for some leather sneakers. The pink shirt adds seasonal color without going too overboard with it. If you want make the look a little sportier, a hat (or even a wool ball cap) may be a nice addition.
I’m also breaking out one of my favorite warm weather watches- the first limited edition Tag Heuer Carrera produced in partnership with The Rake magazine.
About the Blazer
This particular navy blazer is brand new in the shop. I really wanted to be able to offer a super classic navy blazer because there’s just so much you can do with it.
We chose to make it in a Reda Super 110s traceable wool-it’s a lovely four-season fabric with a wonderful texture. To be as classic as possible, it’s two-button, with a notch lapel and flap pockets-you can see the pick stitching on the lapel. It’s a half canvas construction with a double vent and tone on tone lining. We went with brass buttons with functional buttonholes to keep the traditional feel.
Which of these looks would you go for?
Thanks for reading.
